Shri Vishnu Engineering College For Women, is located in Bhimavaram, the central part of Coastal Andhra, is famous and is generally well known for commercial activities due to its rich surroundings. However, recently it has also become a centre for academic activities attracting many professional institutions of higher learning.
The pollution free campus is located in Vishnupur, 3 km from Bhimavaram, on Tadepalligudem Road. The campus, spread over 85 acres of serene scenic landscape, is ideal for studies and is unique in this entire region.
Common facilities for sports & games, stadium, auditorium, good land scaping, temples, green lawns and trees in the campus create an excellent ambience, conducive for academic environment.
Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women was established in the year 2001 in the rural back drop of Bhimavaram by Sri Vishnu Educational Society, with an intake of ECE - 60, CSE - 60 and IT - 60 at undergraduate level. During the next year another branch EEE with an intake of 60 was sanctioned to the college. In the following years additional intake in ECE, CSE, and IT branches was sanctioned and also Civil and Mechanical Engineering courses at UG level and several courses at PG level were introduced.
The college is first of its kind in the Delta Region of Andhra Pradesh. The management is committed to and has taken all constructive measures for women empowerment.
Four undergraduate courses namely ECE, EEE, CSE and IT were accredited by NBA of AICTE for five years, and the college has permanent affiliation to JNTU, Kakinada. The college is rated as one of the best colleges in the state. The infrastructure, the qualitative strengths of the faculty and academic processes are well praised by many academicians and educationists. In recognition of the reputation earned by the college, IBM has established a Center of Excellence in the college premises.
The college has smart classrooms which are air conditioned and equipped with LCD projectors, podiums and book racks. Students are utilizing these rooms even after the college hours. Excellent library facility is available with more than 31,000 volumes of around 6000 titles. The library is fully computerized and is connected on DELNET to facilitate the staff and students with latest knowledge. All the books in the library are provided with RFID tags and every book possesses bbarcoding. Besides, the library has interlibrary borrowing facility with American and British libraries, through which many standard books are made accessible to the
campus community.
All faculty are given AICTE pay scales. Faculty members are encouraged for improving qualifications by sanctioning study leave. Faculty attends international and national conferences and present research papers.
In-house research is encouraged by providing funds and facilities. Book writing is another aspect where the faculty is actively involved. So far more than 12 books were published on various subjects.
As the college is exclusively for women students, residential hostel is built up providing accommodation to 75% of the students. The hostels are spacious and with in the campus. There is a dispensary in the hostels with a Resident Lady Doctor. Transport facility is available round the clock. For recreation of students vast play fields for out door games & sports and indoor facilities are available in the campus. There are a boat club and a physical fitness centre for keeping good health in the campus. There is a community radio station Radio Vishnu 90.4 located in the campus for bringing out hidden talents of the student community. The Vishnu TV Academy is another arena where the students are encouraged to exhibit their theatre arts. Part-time certificate courses are conducted in Theatre Arts and Audio Visual Communication to improve their communication and leadership abilities. Vishnu Telephone Exchange is also located in the campus.
Students are encouraged to actively participate in the co-curricular and extra curricular events like technical quiz, paper presentations, group discussions, model preparation as well as cultural competitions. There is a multimedia centre in the college where students can prepare their exhibits. To bring out the academic, managerial and cultural talents of the students, the college organizes every year a national symposium for women, " Medha Milan ". Women students from all corners of the country participate in " Medha Milan " to present their technical knowledge and exhibit their talents.
The college has a student counseling programme in which each faculty member is designated as a mentor for twenty students. The purpose of counseling is to motivate the students to set personal goals and inspire them to reach those goals. Sometimes specialist counselors interact with the students to fill in the professionalism in the students. There is a grievance cell also available to redress the problems of the students. The library scheme, another innovative practice of the college, ensures that each student has the required text books. The English Language Laboratory and Communication Skills Laboratory are great assets in the present globalization scenario to the students of the college. In addition to the English language, the college facilitates the students with add-on courses in other foreign languages like German, Spanish, Japanese and French, another feather in the cap of
the college.
The college is one of the twelve regional centres of IUCEE in India, a prestigious honour to the college indeed. Through it, several induction programmes are conducted for the faculty. The college signed MoUs with three US Universities namely University of Massachusetts, Purdue University and Northern Illinois University, USA for academic exchange programmes, in addition to the MoUs with different industries like Elico, Efftronics, Vennar Ceramics, Anjani Cements, etc., for hands on experience. The college has established an Assistive technologies Lab in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Lowell,USA to develop devices that help the disabled. Faculty development programmes and orientation courses are regularly arranged in the college with the assistance of agencies like NITTTR, Chennai, Mission 10x, Wipro. The college has an MoU with Ensine Consultants which imparts training on soft skills and personality development to the students.
